Resveratrol in the Media
“On the Oprah Winfrey Show, guest Dr. Mehmet Oz explained the benefits of resveratrol and vouched for this unique product that can change people's life in no other way than prolonging it and making it much more healthier! - Oprah Winfrey Show
“For years, red wine has been linked to numberous health benefits. But the new study, published online in the journal Nature on Thursday, shows that mammals given ultra high doses of resveratrol can get the good effects of cutting calories without actually doing it. "If we're right about this, it would mean you could have the benefit of restricting calories without having to feel hungry," Sinclair said. "It's the Holy Grail of aging research." - Fox News
“At high doses, resveratrol appears to prolong life spans and improve health in mice. Human trials are under way. This research, funded in part by the National Institute on Aging, was published in the journals Nature and Cell in November, and bottles of resveratrol have been flying off the shelves since. Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the Department of Internal Medicine's Complimentary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic says "This may be the best thing since sliced bread for human beings, but we just don't know yet.” - CNN
"Resveratrol is the ingredient in red wine that made headlines in November when scientists demonstrated that it kept overfed mice from gaining weight, turned them into the equivalent of Olympic marathoners, and seemed to slow down their aging process." - Fortune

What is Resveratrol?
Ever since resveratrol was featured on the popular show 60 Minutes and endorsed by Oprah's Dr. Oz it has received an unprecedented popularity. Is it all just media hype or is there actually something behind it?
Definitely there is. Since its discovery in 1963 by the Japanese folk medicine the health benefits of resveratrol has been know for the Asians. In 1992 medical experts found it in red wine and since then billions of dollars were invested into the research of this amazing ingredient. It is found in the skin of the red grape and now that they can extract it, we can consume the desired amount in the form of pills. You'd have to drink at least 3 bottles of red wine each day to have the same effect as one pill does. But what exactly are these positive effects?

Research Evidence
I don't know about you, but every time I search about a new product I'd like to know if there's hard evidence, clinical results or other proof to back up all those very nice and usually quite exaggerating features of products like resveratrol. You guessed it: thise time there is!
An article published in the New York Times shows that tests on mice provide proof that resveratrol works: two groups of mice were fed with a diet full of fat. The first group started to develop signs of impending diabetes, grossly enlarged livers and died much much sooner than the other group, which was fed with the exact same diet but were given high doze of resveratrol. The group with resveratrol treatment lived longer, avoided diabetes and kept their liver normal sized. The life span increase is significant they lived 30-40% longer than other mice (so you could add 30 years easily to "normal" human life span!).
Prevention is Always Better Than Cure
It is always better to prevent a disease than to cure it. When a disease appears your whole body reacts and your immune system will become more vulnerable to other health problems. Not to mention that a lot more energy and treatment is required to cure a disease than to prevent it. Supplements like resveratrol help you prevent cellular degeneration in your body thus preventing serious problems like diabetes, high cholesterol and some times even cancer!
