Some people it seems have a rash that simply will not go away. It is puzzling. They visit doctor after doctor, perhaps they even are sent a skin doctor, even many. Yet it all to no avail. The rash does not go away and even seems to get worse and worse. The horror of it all. Yet it is not only the rash that seems to be an issue. It feels as if something is “under their skin” crawling and even gnawing at the underpinnings of their epidermis – after all the epidermis is any human being’s largest organ.
Sounds like symptoms of Scabies. Not at all. You might just be suffering from Morgellons disease. This is a new disease which even doctors are just beginning to understand and recognize in their patients with skin rashes and disorders. Actually, scabies is the closest thing to Morgellons if any other disease can be said to be similar in appearance and morphology.
But when should one really suspect have contracted the Morgellons disease? These are some of the symptoms that are associated with it and different from those of Scabies. – Rashes ( non healing sores on skin) – Continuous itching or a burning sensation under your skin as if something was moving there. – Feeling as if there are insects or fibers under your skin – Fatigue – Loss of concentration
Yet their is hope. Research is ongoing. Perhaps tests – cat scans, MRI scan will yet be able to determine, isolate and identify the masked felons. Perhaps a blood or serum test will be developed. One can only hope and wish for relief , treatment and more simple awareness of the ailment and disorder both in the “conventional” medical communities and the “alternative” medical system which is becoming more and more widely used as patients seek greater and expanded areas of care. It can be said that for good reason medical science is “evidence based”, works with facts and is understandably conservative. Yet Morgellons disorder is a new and novel disease state only now being recognized within the established medical system for identification and complete care.
Thus the best that can be said and hoped for is that if you yourself or a loved one is believed to be afflicted by the scourge or Morgellons Disease is that if you are lucky enough to be treated by a member of the medical community or even the alternative medical community who is both familiar and trusting with the diagnosis and offers effective or even non effective treatment then you are one lucky camper.
